HYDZ marries the best traditional values of Native American culture with those of the United States as we once knew it: Beauty, Courage, Independence, Nature, Pride, Spirit and Strength. Circa 2007, in Fairbanks, Alaska, founder Rico DeWilde started designing T-shirts with traditional, detailed, high specification artwork from local artists as a way to re-introduce himself to society, having been raised in the wilderness 150 miles outside of Fairbanks. Eventually, Rico's hobby became a way to remember loved ones and honor ancestors, and enabled him to embrace that which provided meaning to him, as well as a way to express himself to the outside world. "With HYDZ I wanted to represent the beauty and strength of Native American culture, because I think we lost a lot of that. It's kind of a way to bring back our pride." At a time when there are two Americas (one strong and mighty, and one searching), the HYDZ brand helps to ground us, bring us together, and renew our spirit as a people and nation.
